Plumbing Info Playlist #3
So long before I turned to the punk/alt new wave scene I was a heavy metal guy. Think Ozzy painters hat with heavy metal band pins,
Ozzy, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Metallica. It’s a sweet look. I remember fondly going to Record Town with my dad to buy Motley Crue’s Shout at the Devil cassette. He took a look at the cassette and said “Are you really gonna listen to this sh*t?” Ah the memories. So even though my preferences have changed I’ve never strayed far away from my heavy metal roots and I still enjoy listening to new bands if they aren’t too nuts. So enjoy.
Playlist #3 Let’s Rock – It’s Plenty Plumbing not Pretty Plumbing
1.) Mother – Danzig – When I try to figure out what this song means I stop at “Mother, tell your children not to come my way” I just picture a very bad man living in an apartment with writing on the walls, hundreds of note books with his manifesto and black lights. It’s a hell of a song though.
2.) Fire Woman – The Cult – When I first started to listen to this song my buddy’s would laugh at me. After 30 years it’s a classic. Who’s laughing now losers?
3.) Thunderstruck – AC/DC – I sort of overplay this song because my kids like it but it’s still one of those tunes that pumps you up.
4.) A Warrior’s Call – Volbeat– This is a newer band out of Denmark that have been hitting their stride lately. I believe this the finest heavy metal band in the world right now. They are one of those bands that can appeal to everyone who likes hard rock. I do them a disservice by putting only one tune on this list. Maybe I’ll put out a “Volbeat Best” playlist someday.
5.) The Last in Line – Dio – RIP Ronnie James, may the angles and demons escort you to your rightful place as a rock God. I used to
come home to watch music videos in the early 80s and this was one of my favorites.
6.) Too Young to Fall in Love – Motley Crue – Do I have to explain?
7.) Wasted Time – Skid Row – To all of the Skid Row fans out their don’t get too comfortable, this is one of the only ones to make the cut but it is a great song.
8.) Diamond Eyes – Shinedown – Another newish hard rock/heavy metal band sporting one of the best lead singers in rock with Brent Smith. If Volbeat is #1 Shinedown is #1A. If you haven’t listened to Shinedown they already have a pretty large catalog of greats.
9.) Seven Nation Army – The White Stripes – Jack White at his finest. This will get the crew going.
10.) Sugar, We’re Going Down – Fall Out Boy – Just listen, this is a jam.
11.) Schism – Tool – I contend this is one of the greatest heavy metal tunes of all time by one of the most frustrating metal bands of all time. A record every 5+ years, Damn you Maynard.
12.) Balls to the Wall – Accept – Oh yes I did! This is an almost blatant rip off of AC/DCs sound but Accept had been at it for a while and were one of the founders of speed metal so we have to give credit where credit is due.
13.) Free Wheel Burning – Judas Priest – Even though Rob Halford is a bit on the nutty side he has one of the most recognizable voices in rock history. I mean who doesn’t dig the leather. This was another nostalgic video with KK Downing and Glenn Tipton rocking that shit with the dual guitar solo. Good stuff.
I hope you enjoy the little glimpses into my music bio. I’m always fascinated by how peoples musical taste form and evolve. What hooks them and why. Have a great St. Paddy’s day.
