The Plumbing Info Alt Pop Playlist #21
A long time ago I said that I wouldn’t go over 13 songs in my playlists. It turns out that I lied. When the playlist bug takes control I can’t stop myself. I
end up feeling bad for the song I left behind. So my lists have grown a bit, you can sue me if you’d like but I think you’ll like my additions. This playlist is a little different in the way it was put together. Because using Spotify makes it so damn easy to enjoy music both new and old, when I hear a good tune I just save the song. The only problem with that is that I end up forgetting I saved the song. So I decided to go back over the last year or so and gather all of the individual songs I saved and put them together in a nice little package. Yes I said “package” This is probably my favorite playlist right now. I’m trying not to listen to it over and over again for fear I will get sick of it. I hope you enjoy as much as I do.
The Lost Downloads Alt Pop Playlist #21
1.) History Eraser – Courtney Barnett – This chick is quite a lyricist and a star in the making.
2.) Seasons (Waiting On You) – Future Islands – The lead singer Samuel Herring sounds so much like Elton John it’s scary. Think Elton with an alt vibe. That’s not a bad combo believe me.
3.) Turn Me Up – Twin Shadow – Great groove, great pop alt tune.
4.) My Silver Lining – First Aid Kit – No matter how hopeful the lyrics are there is always and undercurrent of longing and sadness. I love First Aid Kit, they make you want to grab a cup of tea, a blankie and a box of tissue so you can journal and cry.
5.) Red Eyes – The War On Drugs – This is one of the best songs I’ve heard in awhile. You’ll be tapping your feet and rocking out at a about 1:50 and you’ll never look back.
6.) Lampshades On Fire – Modest Mouse – It’s Modest Mouse come on.
7.) I’m Only Joking – KONGOS – This song effing rocks. It’s the epitome of passive aggressive. I guarantee the KONGOS aren’t only joking.
8.) Thunder Clatter – Wild Cub – Another toe tapper.
9.) Cold Feet Killer – My Goodness
10.) Everywhere I Go – New Politics – This is a pretty popular song right now so chances are you’ve heard it before. I swear I liked it before it became popular.
11.) Kathleen – Catfish and the Bottlemen – My wife’s name is Catherine and she goes by Cathy. I like to send her songs that have her name spelled wrong or like the above which isn’t even her name. She never understands why I send them. It’s my own private joke.
12.) First – Cold War Kids – A deep cut, I think it’s the best song on their new record.
13.) Hold Back The River – James Bay – If you haven’t listened to James Bay this is a great place to start.
14.) Geronimo – Sheppard – Another pop alt song that may become an earworm. You’ll be yelling “Geronimo” in no time. Try it, it’s fun.
15.) Jungle – X Ambassador
16.) The Best Day – Thurston Moore – FINALLY Thurston Moore sounding like he actually remembers what he sounded like while in Sonic Youth. No weird experimental crap.
17.) Trainwreck 1979 – Death From Above 1979
18.) Forgive & Forget – The Kooks
19.) Love is a Fast Song – Copeland – Copeland is my new jam. Another band I can’t believe I missed. You won’t regret listening to this one.
I’m going on record; this is my best alternative playlist especially if you want some new music to jam to. If you don’t like it you probably listen to Paula Abdul and Milli Vanilli.
